Welcome to the Alps! You’ll touch down in Geneva before transferring to your first hotel in Chamonix, France. Meet an EF representative at the airport.
Transfer 1–1.5 hours to your hotel in Chamonix to check in and explore your surroundings.
Raise a glass of beer or wine while you get to know your fellow adventurers and Tour Director during a Welcome Orientation.
Enjoy a Welcome Dinner, your first of many with your group.
Note: Airport transfers are included for travelers who book flights with EF Adventures. If you book your own flights, airport transfers may be available for a fee upon request.
Day 3: L’Aiguille du Midi hike & summit experience
Included meal: Breakfast
Chamonix isn’t just a town—it’s a living museum of mountaineering history. The cobblestone streets have been walked by legendary climbers like Gaston Rébuffat and Walter Bonatti, while the surrounding peaks have tested the world’s most skilled alpinists for over two centuries. Today, you’ll ascend toward L’Aiguille du Midi, one of the most iconic viewpoints in the Alps, where the dramatic spires of granite and ice create a landscape seemingly carved by the gods themselves. Fun fact: L'Aiguille du Midi is the highest lift-accessed mountain in the world and the second most visited tourist attraction in France (after the Eiffel Tower, of course).
L’Aiguille du Midi hike
- Physical intensity: 4 out of 5
- Distance: 4.3 miles
- Elevation change: 1,916 ft gain
Your adventure begins at Montenvers, where you’ll ascend to Signal Forbes, rewarding you with stunning views of the Mer de Glace glacier. As you continue your climb towards Plan de l’Aiguille midway station, the Mont Blanc Massif unfolds before you (talk about alpine splendor). Along the way, pause at Lac Bleu at the base of the Aiguilles de Chamonix for a picture-perfect moment. Your hike culminates with a breathtaking cable car ride to L’Aiguille du Midi’s summit at 12,605 feet, where you can admire snowy mountains as far as the eye can see.
- Hike toward the iconic L’Aiguille du Midi, taking in stunning views of the Mer de Glace glacier and Mont Blanc Massif.
- Ride a cable car to the peak of L’Aiguille du Midi, then dare to “Step into the Void,” a glass skywalk that extends over a sheer drop at the mountain’s summit.
- Savor a free evening wandering Chamonix’s charming streets, perhaps stopping for dinner at one of the town’s cozy restaurants.
Day 4: Morning yoga and e-mountain biking in Chamonix
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch
After yesterday’s hiking adventure, today offers a completely different way to connect with the Alps. Chamonix has evolved beyond its reputation as just an adventure mecca—it’s becoming a wellness destination too, where the stunning natural environment provides the perfect backdrop for finding balance alongside adrenaline. Start with a peaceful yoga session at a studio in the city, breathing in that fresh alpine air while you stretch and center yourself for the day ahead. Then it’s time to switch gears and hop on an e-mountain bike to explore the valley from a whole new perspective. Your guided ride takes you through some of the most spectacular alpine terrain in Europe, where electric assistance lets you conquer challenging climbs while you focus on the incredible meadow, forest, and mountain views unfolding around you.
E-mountain biking in Chamonix
- Physical intensity: 3 out of 5
- Distance: 18.9 miles
- Elevation change: 2,219 ft gain
Starting beneath Mont Blanc’s shadow, you’ll begin on smooth paths winding past traditional alpine chalets and wildflower meadows before the terrain shifts to gravel and steeper grades. As you climb higher, the route alternates between shaded forest hollows and open ridgelines, with each turn revealing glacial streams, jagged peaks, and sweeping views of the Chamonix valley. Midway through your ride, you’ll stop for lunch at a cozy mountain restaurant before tackling an exciting descent back toward town.
- Wake up and greet the mountains with a rejuvenating yoga session at a studio in Chamonix.
- Explore nearly 19 miles of incredible alpine terrain on an e-mountain bike, with lunch at a local mountain restaurant.
- Spend your free afternoon exploring Chamonix on your own or simply relaxing with those incredible mountain views.

Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
The Aiguilles Rouges, or “Red Peaks,” are a mountain range in the French Alps, known for their striking reddish glow during sunset. This natural reserve is a paradise for hikers and nature enthusiasts—think rugged peaks, glacial lakes, alpine meadows, and larch forests. Today’s hike will take you through the heart of the area, giving you ample opportunities to marvel at the region’s unique geology and soak in the views of the surrounding mountains. Day 6: Aosta walking tour, cheese tasting & optional whitewater rafting
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Tasting
Welcome to Aosta, the “Little Rome of the Alps”—a remarkable city that boasts the second-largest collection of Roman ruins in all of Italy, right after the Eternal City itself. Founded in 25 BCE as Augusta Praetoria Salassorum, this strategic Roman outpost was built to control the vital alpine routes leading to Gaul (what the Romans called modern-day France). Today, you can walk through perfectly preserved Roman gates, beneath ancient arches, and along walls that have stood for over 2,000 years. Then you’ll learn why this area is famous for fontina cheese during a mouthwatering tasting. And for those in the mood for more adventure, join the optional whitewater rafting experience down the Dora Baltea river, formed by two glacial streams flowing down from Mont Blanc.
- Discover ancient Aosta as you walk past ruins such as the Arch of Augustus, the Roman Theater, and the Praetorian Gates on a guided tour of the city.
- Dive taste-buds-first into a heavenly cheese tasting and light lunch, featuring the local star: fontina.
- Tackle the whitewater rapids of the Dora Baltea river on an optional rafting excursion, or head back to your beautiful hotel and check out the spa.

While its 15,777-foot peak is in France, its southern slopes extend into Italy’s Aosta Valley. You’re joining the elite circle of hikers who have witnessed Mont Blanc’s awe-inspiring beauty up close. Take it all in. Tonight, you’ll gather one last time with the group that’s shared these unforgettable mountain moments with you.

If you’re feeling extra ambitious, you can continue 720 feet up for more epic views from Testa Bernarda and Mont de la Saxe Lake. Your return journey descends approximately 2,600 feet to Courmayeur, along exposed trails with little shade (don’t forget sunscreen!).

- Stop for lunch at a mountain rifugio (“refuge”) serving hearty local food like fontina cheese and polenta with meat.

Transfer 2.5 hours to the Milan airport for your international flight back to the United States, bringing with you memories of legendary hiking trails, mindful yoga moments, and maybe a newfound obsession with really good fontina cheese.
Lake Maggiore region extension
Take a few days to enjoy some true R&R in Northern Italy, a well-deserved break after some big days of adventure. Lake Maggiore, or Lago Maggiore, is a beautiful glacial lake located on the southern side of the Alps, straddling the border between Italy and Switzerland. It stretches for 40 miles from Locarno in Switzerland to Arona in Italy, making it the second largest lake in Italy. Just a short distance away lies the smaller, equally stunning Lake Orta (which you’ll also get to see), whose beauty has inspired artists and writers for centuries. These tranquil waters offer the perfect excuse to unwind and reflect on your travels.
Lake Maggiore region2 nights
Day 8: Travel to Orta San Giulio, walk along the Orta peninsula & visit San Giulio Island
Included meal: Breakfast
Today you’ll swap the towering peaks of the Aosta Valley for the serene beauty of Lake Maggiore, with a captivating stop at Lake Orta in between. You’ll visit the charming town of Orta San Giulio, perched on Lake Orta’s eastern shore, where a leisurely walk around the Orta peninsula will show off stunning lake views. In the afternoon, you’ll head to the mystical San Giulio Island, a tiny, car-free islet home to the 9th-century Mater Ecclesiae Abbey—a Benedictine monastery that adds to the island’s tranquil atmosphere. Explore the island’s single cobblestone street before continuing on to your hotel near Lake Maggiore, where expansive waters and an Alpine backdrop await.

Or, if you’d rather stay on the mainland, stroll through charming lakeside towns like Stresa, with its Belle Époque villas and promenades. Take a cable car up to Mount Mottarone for panoramic Alpine views, or simply unwind on a beach, gazing out at the crystal-clear waters.
- Join the optional cruise to the Borromean Islands for a day of Italian opulence and natural beauty.
- Create your own Lake Maggiore adventure—visit the Santa Caterina del Sasso hermitage, enjoy a wine tasting in Ghemme, or simply relax at a lakeside café.
Flight home
Day 10: Fly home
