Your adventure begins with an alpine hike in the heart of Pyrenees National Park, an expansive nature reserve in Southern France that’s home to more than a thousand plant and animal species—plus peaks that soar to nearly 10,000 feet. Then, celebrate your first completed hike with a taste of the hearty local cuisine native to the Pyrenees—like white bean- and sausage-filled cassoulet—while soaking up the view from the banks of Lac des Bouillouses.
Estanys del Carlit hike
- Physical intensity: 3 out of 5
- Distance: 4.9 miles
- Elevation change: 836 ft gain
Lace up your hiking shoes and set off for Pyrenees National Park, which unfolds along the French slope of the Pyrenees. Your hike, which begins at over 6,500 ft above sea level, starts from the foot of Lac des Bouillouses, the highest lake accessible by road in the entire mountain range. You’ll embark along the Estanys del Carlit, the Loop of the 9 Carlit Lakes, following the chain of forest-encased estanys (Catalan for mountain lakes) as you journey through the foothills of the magnificent Pic Carlit mountain, watching cows and horses grazing in the grassy slopes of the glacier-carved landscape. Make your way along the trail through pine forests and gorgeous alpine meadows, keeping an eye out for marmots and birds of prey swooping overhead.
- Cross the border to France’s scenic Pyrenees National Park for today’s 5-mile hike along the Estanys del Carlit.
- Treat your taste buds to a well-deserved post-hike lunch of signature dishes from the Pyrenees region.
- Unwind and relax at your lakeside hotel in the Cerdanya valley.
Day 4: Day in Andorra: Vall d’Incles hike & Andorra la Vella walking tour
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
The landlocked principality of Andorra, on the Iberian Peninsula, is one of the world’s smallest countries—so tiny it doesn’t even have an airport. This tiny nation tucked between France and Spain is known for its duty-free shopping and fantastic ski resorts, but in summer and fall, hiking is one of the highlights of visiting Andorra’s mountainous landscape. Today you’ll explore the peaceful Vall d’Incles, a horseshoe-shaped valley where scenic trails wind past traditional stone cabins and along tree-lined slopes toward the country’s largest lake, Estany de Juclà. You’ll notice quite a contrast between the wildflower-filled valley, historically known for livestock farming and fishing, and high-altitude capital Andorra la Vella, where you’ll take a walking tour through winding old stone streets lined with shops and landmarks like La Noblesse du temps, a sculpture made by Salvador Dalí.
Vall d’Incles hike
- Physical intensity: 3 out of 5
- Distance: 4.6 miles
- Elevation change: 712 ft gain
Today’s hike starts at 5,750 feet above sea level, so take your time and enjoy the mountain air as you venture through Vall d’Incles. Keep a lookout for golden eagles and adorable alpine chamois (a type of goat-deer) grazing in the grassy pastures and pine-strewn slopes as you hike along bubbling streams and through forested paths. Follow the winding trail through the valley floor, which gradually gives way to reveal sweeping views of the Pyrenees peaks towering overhead.
- Venture across the border to the tiny principality of Andorra.
- Discover the postcard-perfect alpine valley of Vall d’Incles on a hike in Andorra’s Pyrenees mountains.
- Stroll around Andorra la Vella on a walking tour, where you’ll come across public art from Dalí and landmarks like 16th-century parliament building Casa de la Vall.

Figueres region2 nights
Day 5: Morning yoga, travel to Figueres region, winery visit with tasting & evening in Besalú
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Wine tasting, Dinner
Greet the morning with a restorative yoga class surrounded by the breathtaking Pyrenees peaks, finding your center as the mountain landscape awakens around you. After this peaceful start, you’ll descend from the mountains into the Figueres region, home to legendary Surrealist Salvador Dalí. This region sits between the eastern edge of the Pyrenees and Costa Brava, creating a unique landscape that merges medieval beauty with artistic innovation. Your first stop is wine country, where you’ll enjoy a picnic-style lunch at a local winery, sipping its signature vino alongside house-made cheeses, anchovies, charcuterie, and tortilla (Spain's traditional potato- and onion-filled omelet). From here, you’ll head to your hotel in the beautiful countryside just outside Figueres, perfectly positioned to explore this culturally rich region. And in the evening, you’ll get a taste of the area’s beautifully preserved architecture firsthand during dinner in the town of Besalú, where remnants from the Middle Ages like the 12th-century Romanesque bridge remain practically intact.
- Start your day with a morning yoga class breathing in the fresh air while soaking up your last few moments in the Pyrenees.
- Savor local Spanish wine during a picnic-style lunch and winery visit in Catalonia.
- Settle into your countryside hotel in the Figueres region, the perfect jumping off point for exploring coastal towns like Cadaqués.

Day 6: Day in Cadaqués: walking tour and kayaking in Cap de Creus National Park
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting, Dinner
Tucked along a turquoise-colored bay and framed by the foothills of the Pyrenees, Cadaqués is one of Costa Brava’s gems. Not only is the town charming, with its mazelike cobbled streets and white-walled buildings, it’s packed with history thanks to artists like Dalí, who lived and worked in the area. Soak up scents of seafood dishes streaming from restaurant kitchens as you explore Cadaqués on a walking tour, pausing at a local vermuteria along the way for a tasting of homemade fortified wine—a favorite drink amongst locals. Then, it’s off for a short walk along the rugged shoreline on a stretch of the Camí de Ronda coastal footpath. When you reach the quaint village of Port Lligat, a hub for many of Cadaqués’s fishermen, you'll swap your hiking shoes for a kayak paddle. Make your way along the wild Mar d’Avall, which translates to “sea of below,” known for its red coral sprouting in dark caves and holes, kayaking along the Cap de Creus National Park coastline dotted with nooks and crannies.
Cap de Creus National Park kayaking
- Durations: 2-3 hours
Hop in a kayak and paddle through striking turquoise coves that are so stunning, they look straight out of a film set. - Venture to Cadaqués, home to Dalí’s house, where you’ll set off on a walking tour through the coastal city’s narrow cobbled streets, hidden plazas, and artisan shops.
- Sip Spanish vermouth, or vermut, during a tasting at an authentic vermuteria.

Today begins with exploring the interior landscapes of Baix Empordà on an e-bike ride through this picturesque county in Catalonia known for its charming medieval villages like Ullastret, home to the ruins of an Iron Age settlement. This scenic route showcases the region’s rural beauty—rolling hills, stone farmhouses, and countryside dotted with olive groves, and is followed by a visit to one of the region’s cultural highlights: the Castillo Gala Dalí de Púbol, the medieval building that Salvador Dalí dedicated to his wife, Gala, as a sanctuary and final resting place. Then it's off to the coast with its golden sandy beaches and turquoise-blue coves, where you can take in unique views from the water on an optional sunset boat cruise excursion.

Day 8: Camí de Ronda hike: Sa Punta to Sa Tuna
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell dinner
Your final adventure is a memorable one that perfectly captures the essence of Costa Brava’s stunning coastline. You’ll tackle another section of the famed Camí de Ronda, a network of historic coastal footpaths that trace the rugged shoreline of northeastern Catalonia. Spain’s former frontier guards, or carabineros, once patrolled these very trails on the lookout for smugglers. Today, the Camí de Ronda is one of the most popular hiking routes in the country—and among the few that can be hiked year-round. Get your camera ready as you make your way south from Sa Punta, pausing at spectacular viewpoints overlooking the Mediterranean. The finale of your week-long journey is worth savoring, so sit back and sip a chilled glass of local vino when you reach the pastel-hued and whitewashed homes huddled along the water’s edge in the cove of Sa Tuna.

The final stop: Sa Tuna, a beautiful, boulder-strewn beach lined with fishing boats where you’ll have free time for lunch.

Get lost hopping around the many tapas bars devouring specialties like patatas bravas and olive oil-drizzled pan con tomate; stroll around the city’s ateliers and century-old shops; and peruse pieces by one of the city’s iconic residents at the namesake Picasso Museum. On this two-day extension, you’ll get a closer look at landmarks in the palace- and church-filled Gothic Quarter and marvel at the architecture of Gaudí’s Sagrada Família, the largest unfinished Catholic church on the globe.

- When it’s noon in New York, it’s 6pm on tour.
- When you travel with EF Adventures, you’ll make a positive impact on the places you visit and the people and animals you meet along the way. That’s because our three core Responsible Travel commitments—protecting the environment, supporting local communities, and promoting animal welfare—are at the heart of every tour we offer.
- Travel, when done responsibly, can have an enormous socioeconomic impact on communities. To maximize your impact, eat at locally owned restaurants and shop at small businesses. Ask your Tour Director to point out restaurants they recommend.
- Prepare for your trip: Be aware of monetary norms such as tipping and negotiating in a market; learn about the destination’s forms of etiquette; and take some time to learn a few words in the local language.
- When interacting with locals, make sure to ask people for permission before you take their picture, and approach cultural differences with empathy and an open mind.
- EF Adventures encourages travelers to limit their waste while on the road, especially single-use plastics. You can cut back on generating plastic waste by packing your own toiletries, using electronic documents, and bringing a reusable water bottle and shopping bag. If you need to use plastics or paper, please recycle.
- When visiting national parks, reserves, or other protected areas, please do not remove anything from the natural environment or leave any litter. Carry out what you carried in.
- When you come across wild animals on tour, take the philosophies of World Animal Protection to heart: Don’t touch or feed them, and maintain a respectful distance. The animals you encounter on your trip should be able to exhibit natural forms of behavior.
- Furthermore, avoid buying exploitative animal products, like crafts made from animal parts or products tested on animals.
- If you feel we aren’t meeting any of these commitments, please let us know.
