Here, each day brings a new thrill: indulge in ambrosia-like olive oil; hike from the top of Samaria Gorge, Europe's second-largest canyon; cycle along dramatic cliffsides; then island-hop to breathtaking Santorini, a small volcanic island with some of the world's most stunning vistas. In this postcard-perfect setting, snorkel in the caldera's azure waters, soak in volcanic hot springs, and hike the spectacular rim from Fira to Oia. In between all that adventuring, you’ll catch your breath dining on local Greek specialties, exploring pristine coves, and discovering some of the most picturesque villages Greece’s islands have to offer—maybe even with a glass of local white wine while admiring the sunset over the Aegean.

Note: Airport transfers are included for travelers who book flights with EF Adventures. If you book your own flights, airport transfers may be available for a fee upon request.
Chania region2 nights
Day 3: Fly to Chania, olive oil tasting & walking tour of Chania
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Tasting
You’re off to Crete, Greece’s biggest island, which is so large, it takes a good five hours to drive across. The island's cuisine is highly treasured, earning it UNESCO protection - and the groves lining the hillsides outside of Chania, one of the island’s most picturesque regions, produce olive oil so pristine it’s been called the “elixir of life.” You’ll have the chance to sample some of the best ingredients on Crete during an olive oil tasting and lunch at a local farm. Then it's off to explore Chania, known for its mix of Turkish and Venetian architecture—plus unreal beauty that makes it a bucket list locale for nature enthusiasts.
- Fly from Athens to Chania, on the westernmost side of Crete.
- Taste Cretan specialties at an olive oil tasting and lunch overlooking vineyards and olive groves.
- Explore the best of Chania on a walking tour, including the Venetian Harbour and Old Town's maze of narrow alleys filled with boutiques, leather shops, and historic architecture.
Day 4: Samaria Gorge hike & coastal ferry cruise
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
If you thought the highlight of hiking in Crete was just to admire the gorgeous views, wait until you start making your way down the canyon of the Samaria Gorge. This epic trail is filled with plenty of exciting, unexpected Indiana Jones-like challenges (think narrow stretches and jumping across river rocks). Sure, you’ll have photo moments where you can pause and admire sights like the modest Agios Nikolaos chapel or some of the 14 endemic animal species, like the rare kri-kri (cliff-climbing wild goats). You’ll see why all that effort was worth it when you reach the beach in the town of Agia Roumeli, where you can cool off with a dip in the turquoise-colored cove at Black Sand beach. Then sit back and take the time to soak up the views as you cruise via ferry around one of the island’s most unspoiled coasts to Chora Sfakion.
Samaria Gorge hike
- Physical intensity: 3 out of 5
- Distance: 8.7 miles
- Elevation change: 4,009 ft loss
In Samaria Gorge National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, you’ll start your hike from the top of the gorge at Xyloskalo before continuing down rocky, dirt paths and steps to the seaside town of Agia Roumeli. You’ll also crisscross a river at least a dozen times, which means you may have to do a bit of rock-hopping or traversing rustic bridges. This is why you came to Crete, for action-packed, near 9-mile hikes like this one winding through Europe’s second-largest canyon down to the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
- Hike through Samaria Gorge National Park in Crete’s White Mountains.
- Enjoy free time in Agia Roumeli before swimming in the crystal-clear sea at Black Sand beach.
- Cruise along the coast of southern Crete on an hour-long ferry to Chora Sfakion.
- Head back to your hotel in the Chania region and enjoy dinner with your crew.
Note: Coastal ferry route may vary.
Heraklion1 night
Day 5: Cretorama e-mountain bike ride & travel to Heraklion
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Now that you’re familiar with the Chania's captivating charm, it’s time to get better acquainted with its breathtaking mountains just outside of town. Hop on an e-mountain bike and get your adrenaline going during a cycling tour through the White Mountains and along the coast to photogenic fishing ports like Kolymbari. Then, you’re off to your last stop in Crete: Heraklion, chock-full of wonders from the Venetian period, like the Koules fortress, plus two Bronze Age-era Minoan palaces that are among the most significant archeological sights on the island.
Cretorama e-bike ride
- Physical intensity: 2 out of 5
- Distance: 10.5 miles
- Elevation change: 1,276 ft gain
Cycle 10.5 miles through Crete with the impressive White Mountains—one of the main natural landmarks on the western side of the island—as your backdrop. You’ll ride rolling hills blanketed with thousands of olive trees, past sleepy hamlets and terraced fields where goats graze and the scent of thyme clings to the breeze. This captivating ride takes you along gravel passages and on fast, steep downhill stretches, but you’ll be rewarded with a moment to rest your legs during a coffee or snack break along the way.
- Embark on a scenic e-mountain biking tour taking in vistas of the White Mountains, fishing ports, and quaint villages.
- Enjoy Cretan specialties at lunch at a local restaurant in Kolymbari.
- Sit back during the bus ride to your next destination, Heraklion, where you’ll have a free evening to explore on your own.
Santorini3 nights
Day 6: Ferry to Santorini, caldera catamaran cruise & snorkeling
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
You’re off to the second island of the trip—one that’s been immortalized on postcards and serves as a symbol of summers in Greece. You can’t truly appreciate the beauty of an island like Santorini—which is believed to be the lost city of Atlantis—until you’re cruising the caldera and taking in views of the staggering white and rust-colored cliffs from sea level. A quick history lesson: Santorini formed following a massive explosion more than 3,000 years ago. After you arrive via high-speed ferry, you’ll have some time to explore on your own before the day’s true highlight: a caldera catamaran cruise along Santorini’s coast, complete with snorkeling, Greek wine, ouzo (anise-flavored aperitif), and a full barbecue spread. Depending on the season, you may even snag views of the sunset beneath Oia as you cruise back to port.
Caldera catamaran boat cruise & snorkeling
- Duration: 5 hours
You’ll have three chances to swim and snorkel on this private afternoon sailing trip in Santorini—the last being the hot springs near the uninhabited volcanic island of Nea Kameni. Leave your nice jewelry—and white swimwear—at home so it won’t shift shades when you dive into the therapeutic, sulfur-heavy water! Dry off and sit back enjoying a Greek barbecue dinner served with local white wine before cruising back to the port of Athinios.
- Take a high-speed ferry from Heraklion to your next stop of the trip, Santorini.
- Explore Fira Town, the island’s capital, and enjoy some free time for lunch or leather sandal shopping.
- Soak up views of the island’s rust-colored cliffs and signature blue-domed churches on board a private catamaran cruise, where swim stops include warm waters and hot springs.
- Admire the sunset and enjoy a barbecue dinner from the comfort of your catamaran before you glide back to shore.
Day 7: Fira to Oia caldera hike & optional dinner with wine tasting
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
You came for the views, and you’ll have plenty of them as you hike the rim of Santorini’s crescent-shaped caldera from Fira to Oia. You’ll feel the burn as you continue upward, but no need to make any heart-racing strides—this is more about the scenery, which comes in the form of charming, whitewashed villages and vistas stretching out to the horizon, and enjoying the slower pace of Santorini living over a cup of coffee and a local pastry. Once you reach Santorini’s famous, labyrinth-like town of Oia, known for its cave hotels and stunning views, you’ll have some free time to get to know the area and even enjoy the sunset - or you can opt to join the evening's wine tasting & dinner excursion to further indulge in your Santorini experience.
Fira to Oia caldera hike
- Physical intensity: 2 out of 5
- Distance: 6.7 miles
- Elevation change: 1,125 ft gain
Among the handful of bucket list moments during the trip is this Fira to Oia caldera hike, which sets off from Fira’s main square. On the 6.7-mile excursion, you’ll reach the highest point on the caldera rim, the clifftop village of Imerovigli, where you’ll catch sweeping shots of Skaros Rock. This imposing rocky headland was once the site of a 13th-century Venetian castle and served as the island's medieval capital, offering strategic defense against pirates. You’ll come across some short and steep climbs, but this hike isn’t technical by any means. Refuel during a coffee and pastry stop as you make your way to Santorini’s iconic town of Oia.
- Learn about Santorini’s history with your local hiking guide on the 6.7-mile journey along the caldera from Fira to Oia.
- Spend free time strolling, shopping, or enjoying lunch in the famous village of Oia.
- Sip your way through Santorini’s local volcanic wine at an optional wine tasting and dinner.
Day 8: Thirasia Island hike & Farewell Dinner
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting, Farewell dinner
On your last full day in Greece, a speedy, 30-minute boat ride will drop you on sister island Thirasia, a hidden gem that offers a glimpse into traditional Greek island life untouched by mass tourism. Unlike bustling Santorini, Thirasia remains authentically peaceful, with only about 150 permanent residents. Today’s hike reaches the top of the caldera, which shows off sweeping panoramas of Santorini you won’t find anywhere else. Your hike ends at a traditional bakery where a snack—and jaw-droppingly beautiful views of the sea—awaits. There’s time for a dip in the gorgeous turquoise caldera waters before getting back on board the boat and heading to Santorini for your Farewell Dinner, savoring one last evening surrounded by new friends.
Thirasia island hike
- Physical intensity: 3 out of 5
- Distance: 5.9 miles
- Elevation change: 1,178 ft gain
From the ferry terminal, make your way up a series of stairs to the top of the caldera in Thirasia. From here, you'll pass by Byzantine churches and traditional villages walking along quiet paths that overlook views of Santorini and the glistening, crystal-clear water below before enjoying a tasting at a local bakery.
- Hop on a boat from Santorini to the neighboring island of Thirasia.
- Breeze past traditional villages and Byzantine churches on a hike up to the top of Thirasia caldera.
- Marvel at the panoramic views of nearby Santorini and the sea below over a snack at a local bakery.
- Jump in the crystal-clear caldera waters before the boat ride back to Santorini.
- Cheers to a fantastic trip with your fellow adventurers at a Farewell Dinner in Santorini.
Flight home
Day 9: Fly from Santorini to Athens & fly home
Included meal: Breakfast
You’ve island-hopped, hiked through one of Europe’s most epic canyons, swam in hot springs, and even cycled through traditional villages and olive groves. Now it’s time to make your way to the airport for your 1-hour morning flight from Santorini to Athens. You’ll have plenty of time to reminisce about the trip once you’re on board your international flight to the US. Be sure to pick up a box of baklava for the journey home!

In Athens, you'll discover the city's inner workings and rich history, delving deep into the heart of Ancient Greece. Marvel at iconic sites like the Acropolis, perched high above the city, and the impressive Temple of Olympian Zeus, one of the largest temples of ancient times.
