Itinerary

Overnight flight1 night
Day 1: Fly to Málaga
Your journey to Andalusia begins with an overnight flight to Spain. Get some rest—mountains, gorges, olive groves, and coastline are all waiting on the other side.
Granada3 nights
Day 2: Arrival in Málaga & transfer to Granada
Included meal: Welcome dinner
¡Bienvenidos a España! After landing in Málaga, you’ll drive inland to Granada, home to the Alhambra—one of the finest examples of Islamic architecture in Europe. Check into your hotel before gathering with your Tour Director and fellow travelers for a Welcome Orientation with drinks. Then, as evening approaches, you’ll continue mingling with your group during a Welcome Dinner.
Note: Airport transfers are included for travelers who book flights with EF Adventures. If you book your own flights, airport transfers may be available for a fee upon request.
Day 3: Granada urban hike & optional evening at the Alhambra
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Granada sprawls across several hills at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, creating a city where every neighborhood seems to climb toward the sky. Today’s urban hike takes you through Sacromonte’s traditional cave district and into the Albaicín, Granada’s oldest neighborhood. Narrow cobblestone streets wind between whitewashed houses, leading to sweeping views of the Alhambra palace and the Sierra Nevada beyond. After your hike, you’ll enjoy lunch Granada-style with tapas—small plates that range from local cheeses and cured meats to regional specialties. Tonight, consider joining the optional evening visit to the Alhambra for a quiet, intimate look at this unique site, or take the evening to explore the city on your own.

- Distance: 3.4 miles
- Elevation change: 400 ft gain
Day 4: Sierra Nevada mountain range hike
Included meal: Breakfast
The Sierra Nevada, just an hour from Granada, is the highest mountain range in mainland Spain, with peaks that stay snow-capped well into summer. Today’s hike starts 8,248 feet above sea level and takes you along ancient ridgelines where sweeping views stretch from sky-high summits to the plains below. You’ll pause at the Mojón del Trigo, a stone marker perched high on the ridge that offers panoramic views across the range. Throughout the hike, Pico Veleta—at 11,148 feet, the second-highest peak in the Iberian Peninsula—dominates the horizon. The trail winds through alpine meadows and past traces of the region’s shepherding history. After your hike, you’ll have free time for lunch at a restaurant near the trailhead before heading back to Granada for a relaxing evening.

Ronda2 nights
Day 5: Caminito del Rey hike & travel to Ronda
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
You’re leaving Granada’s mountain backdrop behind today and heading toward Ronda, a hilltop town surrounded by countryside and dramatic gorges. En route, you’ll hike the Caminito del Rey—literally "the King’s Little Path"—which got its name when King Alfonso XIII walked this pathway in 1921 for the inauguration of the Conde del Guadalhorce Dam. The trail consists of wooden walkways pinned directly to rock faces 300 feet above the Guadalhorce River as it cuts through the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes gorge. Sheer limestone walls tower above while the river rushes far below. After completing the trail, you’ll head to Ronda, a historic town that straddles El Tajo, a 400-foot-deep canyon carved by the Guadalevín River. Tonight, you’ll gather with your group for dinner at the hotel.
Caminito del Rey hike
- Physical intensity: 2 out of 5
- Distance: 3.6 miles
- Elevation change: 1,352 ft gain
Note: If you’re uncomfortable with heights, you can walk the first mile of the trail (which offers nice views without elevated walkways) and return to the starting point. Or you can wait at the exit area in El Chorro, where there are picnic areas and food stalls, while the rest of the group completes the hike.
Day 6: Ronda to Setenil de las Bodegas e-bike ride and olive oil museum tour with tasting
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
Ronda’s countryside stretches out in all directions from the town’s clifftop perch, with hills covered in olive groves and vineyards. Today’s e-bike ride takes you past traditional cortijos (Andalusian farmhouses) and scattered cork oaks. The route is mostly gentle, with only gradual climbs before a long descent toward Setenil de las Bodegas, one of Spain’s most unusual villages. Here, houses and cafés are built directly into massive rock overhangs created by the Trejo River gorge. You’ll have free time to grab lunch and wander the narrow streets wedged beneath the rocks before continuing to an olive oil museum. A guide will walk you through the historic hacienda, explaining centuries-old production methods before you taste oils that showcase the distinctive flavors of Andalusian olives. The rest of the afternoon and evening is yours to explore Ronda at your own pace.

Costa de la Luz region2 nights
Day 7: Travel to the Costa de la Luz region via Tarifa along the Strait of Gibraltar
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting, Lunch
Give your legs a break today as you travel from inland Andalusia to the Atlantic coast. Your destination is Costa de la Luz, where wide unspoiled beaches and strong Atlantic winds create a different vibe from the more crowded resort beaches like Costa del Sol. En route, you’ll stop in Tarifa at mainland Europe’s southernmost point, where Africa sits just nine miles across the Strait of Gibraltar. Your Tour Director will lead you on a walk through the old town’s narrow whitewashed streets, passing the Church of San Mateo and the medieval Castillo de Guzmán el Bueno. The walk leads toward the peninsula where the Atlantic and Mediterranean meet—on clear days, you can see Morocco across the water. Along the way, you’ll taste traditional local sweets before sitting down for lunch featuring fresh tuna caught using almadraba, an ancient net-fishing method that dates back over 3,000 years. After lunch, continue to your beachfront hotel on the Costa de la Luz, where the evening is yours to walk the beach at sunset or relax and recharge.
Day 8: Morning yoga & Sancti Petri kayaking
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell dinner
Wake up to the Atlantic stretching out before you and start your final day with sunrise yoga on the beach—a peaceful moment of calm after days of hiking and cycling. Afterwards, you’ll kayak across the Bay of Cádiz toward the Islet of Sancti Petri, passing the historic Urrutia Battery fortification and skirting the Santa Teresa Salt Flats, where flamingos and herons often feed in the shallows. As you approach the island, a weathered castle grows larger on the horizon—it sits atop one of the ancient world’s most storied sites. This small island once held a Phoenician temple dedicated to Hercules, and legend says the hero himself landed here to perform one of his twelve labors. After exploring the islet and taking in Atlantic views, you’ll paddle back and have free time for lunch in Sancti Petri. Tonight, you’ll have the opportunity to reflect on the week with your fellow travelers over a Farewell Dinner.
Flight home
Day 9: Fly home
Included meal: Breakfast (excluding early morning departures)
You’ve hiked mountains, wandered through Granada’s historic quarters, cycled through vineyard country, and kayaked along the Atlantic coast—a week well spent in southern Spain. Finish packing your bags and transfer 1.5–2 hours to the Seville airport for your international flight home.
Seville extension
Not ready to leave Andalusia just yet? Extend your tour with two extra nights in Seville, the vibrant capital of southern Spain. This city pulses with energy, from the narrow streets of the Santa Cruz quarter to the grand Plaza de España. Seville gave the world flamenco, tapas culture, and some of Spain’s most stunning Moorish architecture. It’s the perfect place to slow down and soak up a bit more Andalusian life before heading home.
Seville2 nights
Day 9: Travel to Seville & Old Town walking tour
Included meal: Breakfast
Next stop: Seville, where centuries of history stack up on every corner. Join a local guide for a panoramic bus tour that passes the Guadalquivir River, Torre del Oro, and Maria Luisa Park before stopping at the grand Plaza de España. From here, you’ll walk through the Gardens of Murillo into the Barrio de Santa Cruz, Seville’s former Jewish quarter, where narrow whitewashed streets wind past flower-filled courtyards. You’ll view the massive Seville Cathedral from the outside before entering the Alcázar Royal Palace, a stunning example of Mudéjar architecture—a unique Spanish style blending Islamic and Christian influences—with gardens and tilework that have been perfected over centuries. After the tour, you’ll head to your hotel in Seville, where the evening is yours to explore—stroll along the river, find a tapas bar in one of the lively plazas, or simply wander the lit-up streets as the city comes alive after dark.
Day 10: Optional tapas & wine tasting tour, optional flamenco show, or free time in Seville
Included meal: Breakfast
Today offers two optional experiences: a daytime tapas and wine tasting tour through Seville’s culinary scene, and an evening flamenco show. If you’d like to explore on your own, you might visit the Metropol Parasol for panoramic city views, climb the Giralda tower at Seville Cathedral, or find a sunny plaza and watch Seville’s street life unfold over coffee and pastries.

Climate considerations
- Springtime (April-May) in southern Spain means temperatures range from the mid-60s to mid-70s°F. Summer months (June-September) bring hotter weather, with temperatures typically in the 80s to high 90s°F. July and August are the hottest months, when temperatures can exceed 100°F in inland areas.
- The Sierra Nevada region can be significantly cooler due to elevation, with temperatures at higher altitudes dropping into the 50s°F even in summer.
- Coastal areas like Costa de la Luz benefit from Atlantic breezes, making temperatures more comfortable than inland cities.
- Rain is uncommon during summer months, but a lightweight rain jacket is recommended for spring and fall departures.
- Evening temperatures can drop, especially in Granada and the mountains, so pack warm layers.
- Please be aware that you will be traveling to altitudes as high as 9,196 feet above sea level. These high altitudes can sometimes cause breathing difficulties for travelers who have heart problems or respiratory ailments.
