Cortina d'Ampezzo region3 nights
Day 2: Arrival in Venice & travel to Cortina d’Ampezzo region
Included meal: Welcome dinner
The adventure truly begins when you touch down at the Venice airport. From there, a scenic bus ride will take you to your first stop in the Dolomites, the Cortina d'Ampezzo region. Often referred to as simply “Cortina”, this region in northern Italy will instantly win you over with its striking mountain views and charming historic center.
- Meet an EF representative at the airport.
- Transfer 3 hours to your hotel in the Cortina d’Ampezzo region.
- Raise a glass of beer or wine while you get to know your fellow hikers and Tour Director during a Welcome Orientation.
- Enjoy a Welcome Dinner to continue bonding with the group.
Note: Airport transfers are included for travelers who book flights with EF Adventures. If you book your own flights, airport transfers may be available for a fee upon request.
Day 3: Cinque Torri hike & Cortina d’Ampezzo walking tour
Included meal: Breakfast
One-part majestic hike, one-part open-air museum—Cinque Torri is calling. During World War I, the Dolomite front was a battleground between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian forces, and Cinque Torri was right in the middle of the conflict. After a hike and history lesson, you’ll enjoy a walking tour of Cortina d’Ampezzo with your Tour Director.
Cinque Torri Hike
- Physical intensity: 3 out of 5
- Distance: 3.7 miles
- Elevation change: 1,526 ft gain
Discover the haunting beauty of Cinque Torri, one of the most recognizable and popular hiking spots in the Dolomites. Starting in Cortina d’Ampezzo, you’ll take a cable car to Rifugio Scoiattoli, where your hike begins. You’ll pass World War I war trenches and observation towers as you hike a loop around the Cinque Torri rock formation. Cinque Torri translates to “Five Towers”, which aptly describes the five towering rock formations you’ll see. After your loop, you’ll continue your hike past a few mountain rifugios, stopping at one for lunch on your own before finishing back at the cable car where your hike began.
- Navigate through WWI relics on your Cinque Torri hike.
- Join your Tour Director for a walking tour of Cortina d’Ampezzo.
- Walk through Piazza Venezia and admire the 18th-century Basilica Minore dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo, Cortina’s iconic parish church.
Day 4: Tre Cime di Lavaredo hike & free evening in Cortina d’Ampezzo
Included meal: Breakfast
One thing’s for sure when hiking in the Dolomites: your jaw will hit the ground way more than usual. Speaking of, today, you’ll hike around the stunning Tre Cime di Lavaredo, which translates to “Three Peaks of Lavaredo” (Cima Piccola, Cima Grande, and Cima Ovest). These prominent rocks are the stars of the show around here—and you’ll soon see why.
Tre Cime di Lavaredo hike
- Physical intensity: 3 out of 5
- Distance: 8.4 miles
- Elevation change: 2,034 ft gain
Setting out from Rifugio Auronzo, you're immediately greeted by the imposing beauty of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. The wide gravel trail leads you past craggy rock faces, across ancient scree slopes (loose broken rocks), and beside lush alpine meadows speckled with wildflowers. Mid-hike, you’ll stop at Rifugio Locatelli to take in the panoramic views stretching across the Italian and Austrian Alps. From here, you’ll zigzag down a rocky valley (trickiest part of the hike) past a quaint alpine hut and up to Forcella col di Mezzo ridge. Once you return to Rifugio Auronzo, you’ll have the option to take one final short hike to the Cadini di Misurina viewpoint for one of the best views in the Dolomites. During the hike, you’ll have several opportunities to grab lunch at a rifugio or eat your own picnic lunch.
- Conquer varied terrains along the 8.4-mile Tre Cime di Lavaredo hike.
- Treat yourself to unparalleled Dolomite panoramas at Rifugio Locatelli and the Cadini di Misurina viewpoint.
- Enjoy a free evening in Cortina d’Ampezzo to walk around and grab dinner.
Ortisei region3 nights
Day 5: Travel to Ortisei region via the Gardena Pass and optional Ortisei walking tour & dinner
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Your time in Cortina is up—and you’re getting a well-deserved break from hiking today. Next stop is the Ortisei region, which lies within Val Gardena, where you’ll spend the next 3 nights. On your way, you’ll stop at the Gardena Pass for a quick stroll with your Tour Director. This pass connects Val Gardena with Val Badia, and offers spectacular mountain views—the Sella group in the south, the Cir Peaks in the north, the Sassolungo in the west, and the peaks of Val Badia in the east. As you approach the Ortisei region, you’ll notice things are much lusher here compared to the Cortina region.
- Travel from the Cortina region to the Ortisei region with a stop to stretch your legs at the Gardena Pass, a scenic mountain pass at nearly 7,000 feet.
- Enjoy lunch at a centuries-old farm turned restaurant near Ortisei.
- Check in to your new hotel in the Ortisei region, then join the optional walking tour and dinner in Ortisei or kick your feet up at the hotel for the night.
Day 6: Hiking in Alpe di Siusi
Included meal: Breakfast
Today is all about soaking in the vast landscapes of the Dolomites from an alpine meadow at 6,500 feet. You'll wander through grasslands, look for grazing cows, and take in views that stretch for miles. You’ll no doubt work your legs throughout the 9-mile hike, but you’ll have plenty of opportunities to stop and appreciate the quiet beauty all around you.
Alpe di Siusi hike
- Physical intensity: 3 out of 5
- Distance: 8.9 miles
- Elevation change: 1,585 ft gain
From Ortisei, ride the Mont Sëuc cable car up to the start of your hike through Alpe di Siusi, a vast high-altitude meadow. You’ll begin with a downhill stretch towards the settlement of Saltria, passing Schgaguler Schwaige, a hut/restaurant and perfect spot for a mid-hike snack. As you reach Saltria, the landscape unfolds with sweeping views of the Dolomites. Hiking in a high-altitude meadow means you’ll see vast grasslands, grazing livestock, and unobstructed mountain peaks in every direction. You can stop for lunch on your own at one of the nearby mountain huts before continuing your hike towards Compaccio. From here, you can either take a cable car back to Ortisei or keep the good times going (on foot) all the way back to where you began at the Mont Sëuc cable car station.
- Hike through Alpe di Siusi, Europe's largest high-altitude alpine meadow.
- Stroll across fields bursting with color, surrounded by the grandness of the Dolomite Mountains in every direction.
- Head back to your hotel, located just outside of Ortisei in the town of Kastelruth, and enjoy a free evening to get to know this quaint village.
Day 7: Seceda Ridgeline hike & lunch at mountain rifugio
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Today you're in for yet another spectacular hike in the Dolomites, this time to the breathtaking Seceda Ridgeline, which may look like a painting, but it is in fact a real place. Its unique shape, with sharp peaks jutting into the sky, offers a stark contrast to the gentle meadows below. Besides the stunning mountain views, a highlight of the day will be your lunch at a mountain rifugio, a quintessential Dolomites experience.
Seceda Ridgeline hike
- Physical intensity: 3 out of 5
- Distance: 7.5 miles
- Elevation change: 1,529 ft gain
This hike takes you to the iconic Seceda Ridgeline, where you’ll get up close with some of the region’s most striking mountain and landscape views. The adventure begins at the Col Raiser cable car, where you’ll ride up into the mountains to the start of the trail. From here, you’ll follow paths through vibrant green meadows and along the ridgeline. Stop for lunch at a mountain rifugio before continuing up the steep climb to the Seceda cable car station. Take one of the many trails nearby for unforgettable views—the highlight, of course, is the dramatic, jagged outline of the Seceda peak itself. Once you’ve had your fill of mountain scenery, take the cable car down to Ortisei.
- Hike up (or take one of the flatter trails) to the Seceda Ridgeline and feast your eyes on the remarkable Fermeda Towers, a series of sharp, needle-like peaks that form part of the ridgeline.
- Take a lunch break at a mountain rifugio with the Dolomites as your backdrop.
- Enjoy a free evening to explore, relax, and dine at your leisure.
Brixen region2 nights
Day 8: Kronplatz museums, travel to Brixen region & optional Novacella Abbey wine tasting with dinner
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Today you’ll make your way to the Brixen region, where you’ll spend the next 2 nights. It’s a bit less rugged than where you’ve been. There are still plenty of dramatic peaks, but this area is home to more rolling hills and vineyards—you’ll even have the chance to visit one today during an optional excursion! On your way, take a break from hiking to immerse yourself in the history of mountaineering at some fascinating museums. Known by many as the first person to make a solo ascent of Mt. Everest in 1980, Reinhold Messner is a household name in the mountaineering community. In 2003, he began work on the Messner Mountain Museum, which has become a network of six museums spread throughout the South Tyrol and Belluno regions of Italy. You’ll get the chance to visit his museum at the summit of Mount Kronplatz, as well as enjoy the nearby LUMEN Museum of Mountain Photography.
- Step into the world of mountaineering through the eyes of the legendary Reinhold Messner at the Messner Mountain Museum Corones.
- Visit the LUMEN Museum of Mountain Photography and learn about the history of this unique art form.
- Eat lunch atop Kronplatz peak with amazing views of the region.
- Travel to your hotel in the Brixen region and get settled before your evening.
- Join the optional wine tasting at Novacella Abbey with an included dinner in Brixen—or enjoy some free time in Brixen to stroll through the beautifully lit old town and grab dinner on your own.
Day 9: Adolf Munkel Trail & Santa Maddalena hike
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
You're venturing into the heart of the Puez-Odle Nature Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its dramatic limestone peaks. Your journey takes you along the Adolf Munkel Trail, one of the most scenic paths in the Dolomites. This trail, named after a pioneering mountaineer, offers an up-close view of the Odle mountain group, whose jagged peaks will leave you speechless.
Adolf Munkel Trail & Santa Maddalena hike
- Physical intensity: 2 out of 5
- Distance: 5.7 miles
- Elevation change: 1,240 ft gain
Starting at Zannes car park, your hike leads to the iconic Geisler Alm, a mountain pasture known for its stunning views of the Odle mountain group. Along the way, you'll pass by several alpine meadows, forests, churches (like San Giovanni and Santa Maddalena) and traditional alpine huts (like Dusler Alm and Gschnagenhardt Alm). Keep your eyes peeled because you may even come across grazing cows, horses, and donkeys. You’ll have time for a lunch break to eat food you’ve packed or buy something at one of the rifugios.
- Lace up your hiking shoes and set out on a 5.7-mile hike along the Adolf Munkel Trail.
- Delve into the forested paths beneath the Geisler peaks, then watch as grazing cows, horses, and donkeys wander the high-altitude meadows.
- Cheers to your last night in the Brixen region during dinner with your group.
Verona1 night
Day 10: Farewell Lunch in Riva del Garda & travel to Verona
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell lunch
Sure, you’re leaving the Dolomites behind, but you’re also managing to squeeze in some lake time, something Northern Italy is famous for. Today you'll journey to Riva del Garda, a town that’s been a popular retreat since Roman times, thanks to its beautiful location at the northern tip of Lake Garda. This area marks the transition between Alpine and Mediterranean climates, creating a unique microclimate that supports olive and lemon groves alongside alpine plants. You’ll gather for a Farewell Lunch to savor one last meal surrounded by new friends, as you toast to a fantastic time in the Dolomites before heading to Verona for your final night in Italy.
- Travel to the charming lakeside town of Riva del Garda, where you’ll reflect, reminisce and dig in at a lakeside Farewell Lunch with your group.
- Continue on to your hotel in Verona—then raise a glass to a spectacular trip with your fellow hikers on your last evening in Italy..

If you’re traveling to multiple countries with this requirement, you only need to complete the form once. All travelers are responsible for obtaining their own ETIAS travel authorization before departure. For more details, please visit our Help Center.

- Italy is 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and 6 hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET).
- When it’s noon in New York, it’s 6pm in Italy.
- When you travel with EF Adventures, you’ll make a positive impact on the places you visit and the people and animals you meet along the way. That’s because our three core Responsible Travel commitments—protecting the environment, supporting local communities, and promoting animal welfare—are at the heart of every tour we offer.
- Travel, when done responsibly, can have an enormous socioeconomic impact on communities. To maximize your impact, eat at locally owned restaurants and shop at small businesses. Ask your Tour Director to point out restaurants they recommend.
- Prepare for your trip: Be aware of monetary norms such as tipping and negotiating in a market; learn about the destination’s forms of etiquette; and take some time to learn a few words in the local language.
- When interacting with locals, make sure to ask people for permission before you take their picture, and approach cultural differences with empathy and an open mind.
- EF Adventures encourages travelers to limit their waste while on the road, especially single-use plastics. You can cut back on generating plastic waste by packing your own toiletries, using electronic documents, and bringing a reusable water bottle and shopping bag. If you need to use plastics or paper, please recycle.
- When you come across wild animals on tour, take the philosophies of World Animal Protection to heart: Don't touch or feed them, and maintain a respectful distance. The animals you encounter on your trip should be able to exhibit natural forms of behavior.
- Furthermore, avoid buying exploitative animal products, like crafts made from animal parts or products tested on animals.
- If you feel we aren’t meeting any of these commitments, please let us know.
