Your first hike will take you to the Bay of Ieranto, a hidden gem on the coast of the Sorrento Peninsula. According to Greek mythology, this is where the Sirens once lived, luring sailors to their doom with their enchanting songs. Today, the bay's crystal-clear waters and rugged landscapes make it a hiker's paradise. After the hike, enjoy a free afternoon to explore Sorrento on your own. For those looking to delve deeper into local culture, consider joining the optional food walking tour—a delightful way to discover the city's flavors and history.
Bay of Ieranto hike
- Physical intensity: 1 out of 5
- Distance: 2.8 miles
- Elevation change: 812 ft gain
Starting in the village of Nerano, you'll descend a series of ancient stairs known as the "Miner's Staircase," named for the workers who once used this path to reach mineral deposits in the area. As you hike down, take as many breaks as you’d like to gawk at the beauty of the Mediterranean. Look across the water towards Capri (you’re going there tomorrow!) and catch a glimpse of the Faraglioni sea stacks rising from the turquoise waters. Once you reach the Bay of Ieranto, enjoy any snacks you brought along and a refreshing swim before making your way back up the same path to Nerano.
- Travel to the town of Nerano, where you'll hike 2.8 miles roundtrip from Nerano to the secluded Bay of Ieranto.
- Enjoy a picturesque picnic on the beach, munching on your snacks while surrounded by breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea—then cool off with a dip in the bay.
- Opt for the walking food tour of Sorrento, sampling local favorites like arancini and limoncello, or explore the charming streets and shops of Sorrento on your own.
Amalfi Coast region4 nights
Day 4: Ferry to Capri, Pizzolungo coastal hike & travel to Amalfi Coast region
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Get ready, folks. Today you’ll take a boat over to the island of Capri, which is basically an island of superlatives—the most beautiful, the most glamorous, the most iconic...you get the idea. Picture rugged cliffs plunging into turquoise waters, lush gardens cascading down hillsides, and charming whitewashed villas dotting the landscape. For centuries, this tiny island has been a magnet for artists, writers, and celebrities, drawn by its stunning natural beauty and chic Mediterranean vibes. You’ll experience this beauty up close today as you hike along the coastal Pizzolungo path. At the end of your day in Capri, you'll set sail for the Amalfi Coast, using this island as your gateway to the next leg of your journey.
Pizzolungo coastal hike
- Physical intensity: 2 out of 5
- Distance: 4 miles
- Elevation change: 1,319 ft gain
Your hike begins in the Piazzetta of Capri, the island's elegant main square. Follow your guide through narrow alleyways and down ancient staircases, gradually making your way towards the coast. As you descend, you’ll pass ruins of Roman villas before reaching the highlight of the hike: the Natural Arch (made of limestone) framing the ocean below. You’ll then descend a steep flight of stairs to the Grotta di Matermania, a hidden cave along the path where you can still see traces of the ancient mosaic wall. On the final stretch of the hike, you’ll be rewarded with unobstructed views of the Faraglioni sea stacks, three towering rock formations jutting out of the water, as well as the striking Villa Malaparte, considered by many to be one of the best examples of modern Italian architecture. Your hike ends at the Tragara viewpoint with panoramic views of Capri’s southern coast. After you take it all in, you’ll return to the Piazzetta of Capri.
- Travel by ferry from Sorrento to the island of Capri.
- Hike the Pizzolungo coastal trail, with stops at the Natural Arch, Grotta di Matermania, and the Tragara viewpoint.
- Enjoy free time in Capri Town for lunch and exploring on your own—you could rent a paddleboat to visit the Blue Grotto, walk along the Via Krupp, take a chairlift to the top of Mount Solaro, or simply get lost in town.
- Hop on another ferry and head to your new hotel in the Amalfi Coast region.
- Check into your hotel perched along the stunning coastline and soak in the magic of your surroundings at a group dinner.
Day 5: Valle delle Ferriere via Valle dei Mulini hike, lemon farm tour and lunch & free time in Amalfi
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Tasting
The Amalfi Coast is known for a lot of things—spectacular scenery, enchanting coastal towns, and historical sites to name a few. But did you know the region is famous for lemons? These fragrant fruits have been cultivated in the area for centuries and are now deeply embedded in the culture. After your morning hike through the Valley of Iron and Valley of Mills, you’ll spend a few hours immersing yourself in the wonderful world of lemons. Today is also your chance to explore the town of Amalfi itself, the place that gives its name to this entire coastline. You'll have time to wander its streets, visit its magnificent cathedral, and soak in the atmosphere of this historic seaside town.
Valle delle Ferriere via Valle dei Mulini hike
- Physical intensity: 2 out of 5
- Distance: 3.5 miles
- Elevation change: 815 ft gain
Your hike begins in the charming village of Pontone, known for its panoramic views of the coast. From here, you'll descend through the Valle delle Ferriere (Valley of Iron) and into the Valle dei Mulini (Valley of Mills). Along the way, you'll pass by ancient ironworks that give the first valley its name, and then encounter the ruins of old watermills in the second valley. You'll also have the chance to admire a series of cascading waterfalls tucked among the lush greenery of the nature reserve. The final stretch of the hike takes you down 900 stone stairs through the Valle dei Mulini, ending in the heart of Amalfi.
- Hike through Valle delle Ferriere nature reserve, past ancient ironworks and hidden waterfalls, then continue through Valle dei Mulini with its old watermill ruins.
- Tour a lemon grove, then enjoy a multi-course lemon-themed lunch.
- Spend a free afternoon and evening in Amalfi town—visit the 9th-century Amalfi Cathedral and its Cloister of Paradise, shop in local boutiques, explore winding alleyways, and have dinner on your own.
- Take a ferry back to your hotel, continuing to admire the coastline on the way.
Day 6: Path of the Gods hike & free time in Positano
Included meal: Breakfast
The Path of the Gods is one of Italy's most iconic hiking trails, a route walked by Greek gods, according to mythology. It follows the ridgeline of the Amalfi Coast high above the Mediterranean, and there’s no exaggeration when it comes to its name—it truly is divine. After the hike, you'll explore Positano, perhaps the most famous and photogenic of the Amalfi Coast villages. With its pastel-hued houses cascading down to the sea, Positano is a slice of paradise on earth. To round out this heavenly day, you'll enjoy a scenic boat ride to capture unparalleled views of the Amalfi Coast from the water.
Path of the Gods hike
- Physical intensity: 2 out of 5
- Distance: 3.3 miles
- Elevation change: 531 ft gain
From the hilltop town of Bomerano, you'll embark on a breathtaking hike along the legendary Path of the Gods. This ancient trail, once the only connection between Amalfi settlements, offers heavenly views of the Mediterranean Sea and the dramatic coastline below. As you navigate along limestone ridges and through lush forests, you'll pass terraced vineyards and abandoned stone huts, a testament to the region's rural past. Your journey ends in Nocelle, a hidden "lost" village accessible only on foot via two stone pathways. From here, anyone who wants to extend their hike can descend 1,700 steps (1.9 miles) to Positano. Otherwise, hop in a taxi for a quick ride.
- Hike the legendary 3.2-mile Sentiero degli Dei (Path of the Gods) along the Amalfi Coast.
- Descend 1,700 stairs from Nocelle to Positano—or opt for a taxi ride instead.
- Enjoy a free afternoon to explore Positano's charming streets, find a perfect lunch spot, and soak in its glamorous atmosphere.
- Take a leisurely set of ferry rides back to your hotel, savoring extended views of the stunning Amalfi coastline from the water.
Day 7: Walking tour of Ravello & Farewell Dinner on the Amalfi Coast
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell dinner
For your final day on the Amalfi Coast, you'll visit Ravello, with its stunning gardens and—you guessed it—panoramic views. Unlike some of its seaside neighbors, Ravello offers a unique hilltop perspective of the coast, sometimes called "The Balcony of the Amalfi Coast.” Known for its romantic gardens, historic villas, and inspiring views, Ravello has long been a haven for artists and musicians. As your Italian adventure draws to a close, bid farewell to this sublime region the way any authentic Italian experience should end—with a delicious meal shared among friends.
- Explore the charming hilltop town of Ravello with your Tour Director and visit the impressive gardens of Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone—true paradises that have inspired artists for centuries.
- Relish in your final afternoon in this Italian paradise.
- Celebrate (and reflect on) your Sorrento and Amalfi Coast hiking adventure at a Farewell Dinner with your group.
Flight home
Day 8: Fly home
Included meal: Breakfast (excluding early morning departures)
Steps? Counted. Stomach? Full. Photo library? Also full. Bid arrivederci to this lovely region of Italy as you transfer 1.5 hours to the Naples airport in the morning for your international flight home.
Naples extension
Don't let your Italian adventure end just yet. Extend your trip with two nights in Naples, a city that pulses with energy and history—and happens to be the birthplace of pizza (lucky you!). Known for its stunning architecture like the Royal Palace, the San Carlo Opera House, and the intricate Baroque churches dotting the city, Naples offers a journey through time—the perfect way to spend a few days after your Sorrento and Amalfi Coast hiking adventure. And if you’re up for it, you can even join an optional day trip to the beautiful island of Ischia. Whatever you decide to do with your time, this quick trip will be one to remember.
Naples2 nights
Day 8: Travel to Naples & walking tour of the city
Included meal: Breakfast

In the morning, you’ll make your way to Naples and meet a local guide for a walking and sightseeing tour—above and below ground. You’ll visit the National Archaeological Museum, explore the city's historic center, and go beneath the city, into Naples’ subterranean geothermal zone. After your tour, you can wander and explore to your heart’s content.

- Visit the National Archaeological Museum and see artifacts from Pompeii and Herculaneum.
- Explore the historic center of Naples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Go subterranean on a guided tour of Naples’ ancient aqueducts and cisterns.

Day 9: Optional Ischia island & Castello Aragonese excursion or free day in Naples
Included meal: Breakfast
It’s your day, so you do you. Relax and explore more of Naples on your own or join the optional excursion to the island of Ischia. Often overlooked in favor of its more famous neighbor, Capri, Ischia offers a more authentic and less crowded experience of Mediterranean island life. The island's history dates back to ancient times, with the Greeks, Romans, and Aragonese all leaving their mark on its culture and architecture.
- Take a ferry to the island of Ischia for an optional trip exploring its six picturesque villages and Castello Aragonese, a castle built on a tiny tidal island next to Ischia.
- Hang back in Naples to wander the bustling streets, visit a museum, or simply relax in the charming piazzas.

- We recommend having at least one blank passport page for entry stamps.
- U.S. and Canadian passport holders must register for an ETIAS travel authorization in order to enter many European countries.

That means that even if you’ve previously traveled to any of these European countries without a visa, starting in 2026, you’ll need to get ETIAS authorization to visit them again. If you’re traveling to multiple countries with this requirement, you only need to complete the form once. All travelers are responsible for obtaining their own ETIAS travel authorization before departure. For more details, please visit our Help Center.
- If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact each country’s consulate for your specific entry requirements.
- Round-trip flights booked through EF Adventures arrive in and depart from Naples.
- Transfers to and from the airport at the beginning and end of the tour are included for travelers who purchased their flights through EF Adventures. Travelers who booked their own flights are responsible for securing their own transfer upon arrival, and may request a departure transfer with EF Adventures for an additional cost.
- When you arrive in Naples, an EF representative will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall with an EF sign or a sign with your name(s). If you don’t see a representative immediately, please be patient and stay in the arrivals area. They may be assisting another traveler who has also just arrived and will be back shortly.
