Day 3: Canet d’Adri Loop bike ride, EF Pro Cycling Service Course visit, and Girona walking tour
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Tasting
Girona is a cyclist’s dream. Riders flock here for the diversity of terrains, the supportive community, and the ingrained cycling culture that you’ll most certainly feel. Today you get your first taste of it on a loop that snakes north out of the city through quiet country lanes, sun-dappled forests, and past stone farmhouses known as masias. You’ll also visit the EF Pro Cycling Service Course—the team’s warehouse and operations hub where the professional race fleet is maintained. This behind-the-scenes look reveals the precision and passion that goes into competing at cycling’s highest level. Oh, and did we mention Girona is absolutely stunning, too? Nestled on the banks of the River Onyar, the city is famous for its well-preserved Jewish Quarter, the impressive Girona Cathedral, and the row of colorful houses along the riverfront. When you add in quaint cobblestone streets and bustling cafes, Girona just begs to be explored.
Canet d’Adri Loop bike ride
- Distance: 18.6 miles
- Elevation change: 1,352 ft gain
- Physical intensity: 2 out of 5
- Get fitted for your bike and gear up with the appropriate equipment.

- Celebrate your first ride at lunch in town with your group.
- Visit the EF Pro Cycling Service Course for an insider’s look at a World Tour team’s operations—where race bikes are prepped, team logistics are coordinated, and professional cycling comes to life.
- Enjoy a walking tour with a local guide through Girona and its Ciutat Antigua (Old Town), complete with a tasting of xuixo, a favorite pastry in the region.
Day 4: Els Àngels & Santa Pellaia bike ride and Gala Dalí Castle visit
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
The day starts with a coffee tasting at a local café run by a former pro cyclist—a good reminder that Girona’s relationship with the sport goes well beyond the roads. From there, you’ll head out on the Els Àngels climb, one of the most beloved rides in the region, winding through pine forest and switchbacks before opening up to sweeping views at the Santuari de Nostra Senyora dels Àngels. The descent drops you into the Empordà—the broad, sun-baked plain between Girona and the coast, patchworked with vineyards, olive groves, and medieval villages—where a stop at Gala Dalí Castle in Púbol awaits. At this point, the choice is yours: call it a day and return to your hotel, or continue cycling through the countryside to tackle the Santa Pellaia climb. Finish both climbs and you’ll have completed the Hincapie Loop, named after George Hincapie—one of many pros who have called Girona home.
Els Àngels & Santa Pellaia bike ride
- Option A: 20.5 miles, 1,913 ft elevation gain
- Physical intensity: 2 out of 5

- Learn about the relationship between specialty coffee and cycling over a cup of joe at a local café.
- Ride the rolling hills of the famous Els Àngels climb.
- Visit the Gala Dalí Castle, the former residence of Salvador Dalí’s wife, which is now a museum and culture center dedicated to her.
- Get ready for an optional second ride, the Santa Pellaia climb, or opt for a more relaxing afternoon back in Girona—exploring, walking along the walls of the old city, or kicking back at your hotel.
Figueres region2 nights
Day 5: Lake Banyoles & Mare de Déu del Mont bike ride and travel to the Figueres region
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
North of Girona, the countryside opens up quickly—quiet lanes, rolling fields, and the Pyrenees sitting on the horizon. All three ride options today pass through Lake Banyoles, Catalonia’s largest natural lake, where the glassy water reflects forested hills and fishermen’s huts line the shore. It’s a natural stopping point: take a lap around the lake, grab some lunch, and then decide how far you want to push. The shortest ride option ends here. The two longer ride options continue on through sleepy villages and oak forests toward the base of Mare de Déu del Mont. And if you’re feeling really ambitious, opt for the longest option and take on the full climb—over 3,000 ft of elevation over 11 miles. No matter what you choose, in the afternoon, you’ll check in to your new hotel in the Figueres region for a well-earned group dinner.
Lake Banyoles & Mare de Déu del Mont bike ride
- Option A: 22 miles, 1,312 ft elevation gain

- Enjoy some free time to eat lunch and explore the area.
- Continue toward the Figueres region through oak forests and medieval villages—or hop in the support van after the lake.
- Push on to the base of Mare de Déu del Mont, or go all the way to the summit for one of the most demanding and rewarding climbs in Catalonia.
- Relax at your stunning countryside hotel before having dinner with your group on-site.
Day 6: Optional Cadaqués excursion and evening in Besalú
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Buenos días to the Figueres region! This region merges medieval beauty with artistic innovation—something you’ll experience firsthand at your unique hotel in the beautiful countryside just outside the city of Figueres. Today you’ll rest your legs after three big days of riding. Sleep in, then join the optional Cadaqués visit—if you’re into beautiful coastal cities, or hang back and relax at the hotel pool. Come evening you’ll head to Besalú for dinner and some exploring. The town is small, ancient, and worth every minute, with a fortified Romanesque bridge dating to the 11th century.
- Join the optional Cadaqués excursion for some coastal fun, or enjoy free time at the hotel pool and spa.
- Head to the nearby medieval town of Besalú for a night of exploring and eating.
L'Escala region3 nights
Day 7: Figueres region to El Port de la Selva bike ride, lunch at winery, and travel to the L’Escala region
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Wine tasting
High winds have shaped this corner of Catalonia for centuries—the vines grow low and gnarled against it, the villages are built to shelter from it, and the light it leaves behind is sharp and unusually clear. Today’s ride captures all of it. The short option rolls gently north through the DO Empordà wine region, to the castle town of Peralada. The long option adds a steep climb to the 10th-century Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, perched nearly 1,700 feet above the Mediterranean on the slopes of Verdera mountain, before a switchbacking descent to the same whitewashed fishing village below. Either way, the whole group will reconvene at a family-owned winery in the heart of the Empordà for a picnic lunch and wine tasting among the vines.
Figueres region to El Port de la Selva bike ride
- Option A: 18 miles, 836 ft elevation gain
- Physical intensity: 1 out of 5
- Option B: 28.4 miles, 2,427 ft elevation gain
- Physical intensity: 3 out of 5
- Ride north through vineyards and stone farmhouse country toward the elegant castle town of Peralada.
- Push on to the Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes for panoramic views over the Cap de Creus coastline, then descend to El Port de la Selva—or take the support van from Peralada and meet the group at the coast.
- Enjoy a picnic lunch and wine tasting at a local winery.
- Travel to your next hotel in the L’Escala region to check in, check out the amenities, and gawk at the ocean from the property.
Day 8: Tossa de Mar bike ride
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
The coastal road out of Sant Feliu de Guíxols is one of those rides that stops you in your tracks. The tarmac clings to the cliffs, threading through pine forest and past hidden coves, with the Mediterranean filling the gaps between headlands. All three options today follow this stretch to Tossa de Mar, a medieval walled town perched above a turquoise bay, its stone towers and cobbled streets making it one of the most distinctive stops on Costa Brava. Everyone gets free time here to explore, grab lunch, or sit on the beach. From there, those who’ve had enough can hop in the support van to head back to Sant Feliu de Guíxols. If you’d like to keep riding, you’ll go back the way you came. Anyone who’s up for an extra challenge can add the quiet, wooded ascent to Sant Grau on the way back to Sant Feliu de Guíxols. In the evening, you’ll gather with your fellow riders for dinner at the hotel.
Tossa de Mar bike ride
- Option A: 14.2 miles, 1,450 ft elevation gain
- Physical intensity: 2 out of 5
- Option B: 28.4 miles, 2,867 ft elevation gain
- Physical intensity: 3 out of 5
- Option C: 34.6 miles, 3,717 ft elevation gain
- Physical intensity: 4 out of 5
- Wake up, fuel up at breakfast, and travel to the start of your ride in Sant Feliu de Guíxols.
- Hop on your bike and enjoy the gorgeous coastal scenery on your ride to Tossa de Mar.
- Take a few hours to explore the area’s beaches, cute streets, and have lunch.
- Ride the morning route in reverse back to Sant Feliu de Guíxols or head back the same way in the support van.
- Push for the longest option by adding the Sant Grau climb, a wooded inland ascent before a fast descent back to Sant Feliu de Guíxols.
- Enjoy dinner with your group back at the hotel.
Day 9: L’Escala region to Peratallada bike ride and Farewell Lunch at winery
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell lunch, Wine tasting
Life is good when you wake up in Costa Brava. But life is even better when you have an epic final day of biking ahead of you. Your ride heads inland, away from the coast and into the quieter side of the Empordà—flat agricultural plains, honey-colored villages, olive groves and wheat fields stretching toward the Pyrenees. Those on the longer route pedal the full way to Peratallada, while those opting for a shorter day stop at the halfway point in Les Olives and hop in the support van for the rest. Either way, everyone arrives in Peratallada, a medieval village so well-preserved it barely feels real: cobbled streets, a moat carved from living rock, and golden stone archways that have barely changed in centuries. It’s a fitting place to end a week in the saddle. From there, the whole group will head to a local winery for a Farewell Lunch.
L’Escala region to Peratallada bike ride
- Option A: 17.7 miles, 728 ft elevation gain
- Physical intensity: 1 out of 5
- Option B: 33.8 miles, 1,381 ft elevation gain
- Physical intensity: 3 out of 5
- Ride the full route from your hotel all the way to medieval Peratallada, or stop at the halfway point in Les Olives and take the support van the rest of the way.
- Head to a local winery to tour the wine cellar and enjoy a wine and olive oil tasting.
- Settle in for a multi-course Farewell Lunch at the winery.
- Travel back to your hotel and enjoy your final evening in the L’Escala region.

Included meal: Breakfast (excluding early morning departures)
You biked, you drank wine, and you biked some more. You’ll transfer 1.5–2 hours to the Barcelona airport in the morning to catch your international flight home.

- We recommend having at least one blank passport page for entry stamps.
- Beginning in 2026, passport holders from visa-exempt countries like the U.S. and Canada will need to register for an ETIAS travel authorization to enter certain European countries. Even if you’ve previously traveled to any of these 30 countries without a visa, you’ll need to get ETIAS authorization to visit them again. If you’re traveling to multiple countries with this requirement, you’ll only need to complete the form once.
- All EF Adventures travelers will be responsible for obtaining their own ETIAS authorization before departure. For more details, please visit our Help Center.
- If you aren’t a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact each country’s consulate for your specific entry requirements.
- Round-trip flights booked through EF arrive in and depart from Barcelona.
- Transfers to and from the airport at the beginning and end of the tour are included for travelers who purchased their flights through EF Adventures. If you book your own flights, airport transfers may be available for a fee upon request.
- When you arrive in Barcelona, an EF representative will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall with an EF sign or a sign with your name(s). If you don’t see a representative immediately, please be patient and stay in the arrivals area. They may be assisting another traveler who has also just arrived and will be back shortly.

You're comfortable with sustained climbs and some winding descents, excited by the sense of accomplishment they bring.
This tour is great for:
- Biking enthusiasts
- Those who want to raise their heart rate
What to expect:
- Daily mileage: 14–58 miles
- Daily elevation gain: Up to 5,200 ft
- Typical terrain: Rolling terrain with occasional sustained climbs and faster downhills. Rides are often longer with a more intense pace.
Tour pacing
This is a fast-paced tour. The pace of a tour itinerary considers how often you’ll switch hotels, the amount of planned daily activities, and how you’ll get from place to place. You can expect:
- Two 3-night stays and one 2-night stay
- Most days are full of included activities (more if you add excursions), however most evenings are free.
- Most transportation by vans and taxis.
Climate considerations
- Catalonia and Costa Brava have a Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and hot, sunny summers.
- Summer months (July and August) can be quite hot, with temperatures often reaching 85°F to 90°F during the day.
- You should be prepared for warm to hot temperatures and pack appropriate cycling gear, including breathable jerseys, shorts, and plenty of sunscreen.
- While rain is less common during the summer months, it's always a good idea to pack a lightweight, packable rain jacket just in case.
- Mornings and evenings can be cooler, especially in coastal areas, so having layers like arm warmers or a light jacket is recommended.

- Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee that your accommodations will have laundry services or facilities. We recommend checking directly with your hotels once they’ve been confirmed, about 30 days prior to departure.
- Some hotels on this tour are situated on narrow streets; as such, our vans may not be able to drop you off right out front. In these instances, you’ll have to walk your luggage to the property, no more than a few blocks.
- Please be advised that the strength of the air conditioning in European hotels/buildings is often not as strong or as cool as what you might be used to in the U.S. or Canada.
- Spain operates on the European standard 220-240 volts and uses Types C, E, or F plugs with two small, round pins.
- Excursions are available for purchase prior to departure, and most excursions will be available for purchase while you are on tour directly through your mobile app.

- Take proper care with sun exposure, as the sun can be especially strong in some of the regions on this tour.
- There are inherent risks associated with adventure activities such as biking, particularly for those with pre-existing medical conditions. Discuss your planned activities with your doctor or healthcare provider for the best advice on participation.
- This tour includes 3 lunches and 4 dinners. They may be set menus, buffets, or family-style meals, depending on the location. Dinners also include one glass of beer, wine, juice, or a soft drink, as well as water, coffee, and tea.
- Breakfast each morning is also included at the hotel and is typically buffet style with hot and cold options.
- In Spain, breakfast like a local with just a pastry and coffee. Then, tuck into a three-course lunch featuring a Spanish staple like savory seafood paella or grilled meat and fried potatoes. Dinner is less hearty than lunch and is served late, between 9pm and midnight. Snack on small plates called tapas any time of day.
- Catalan cuisine, which can be found in Barcelona, is markedly different from food in other parts of Spain. Nearly every restaurant will offer pa amb tomàquet—toasted bread with tomato and olive oil. Fresh seafood, hearty meat dishes, cheeses, and locally grown vegetables, such as wild mushrooms, are culinary mainstays.
- Tips for meals, drivers, porterage (if applicable), and local guides for sightseeing tours are included in the price of your tour.
- At the conclusion of your tour, it is customary to offer your Tour Directors a gratuity in local currency. Please keep current exchange rates in mind.
- We recommend tipping $30-$40 USD per person per day (to be given to the lead Tour Director, who will divide it up).
- On a 10-day tour, we recommend tipping a total of $300–$400.
- Tips can only be paid in cash.
- You will use the euro on tour.
- Better rates of exchange are usually available overseas, although it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive.
- We strongly advise that you take debit and credit cards, which can be used to withdraw cash at local banks as needed.
- You can use most cards at ATMs on the international networks Cirrus and Plus, but make sure to check with your home bank about withdrawal fees.
- International banks and businesses primarily accept debit and credit cards that work with the EMV chip system. If you don’t already have at least one card with a chip in it, we strongly recommend requesting one from your bank prior to your tour.
- Plan ahead and bring cash to tip your Tour Directors.
- To help you feel prepared before traveling on tour, we strongly recommend downloading the EF Adventures mobile app. It’s free and provides information about important deadlines and entry requirements, as well as your detailed itinerary, packing tips, and more. You can also connect with fellow travelers through the app’s chat feature.

- Our extensive network of offices around the world, and our integration of ISO 31000: Risk Management Guidelines, help our dedicated 24/7 Emergency Service teams anticipate and address on-tour challenges in a flexible and iterative way.
- This team supports travelers and Tour Directors using a combination of extensive training, simulations, incident response planning, and decades of experience to help manage emergencies if they arise, ranging from personal health concerns or injuries to major world events.
- As needed, On Tour Support can facilitate additional support for travelers on tour, arrange assistance from outside specialists, and liaise with local and international authorities to help solve on-the-ground issues. In addition, the team is dedicated to supporting and facilitating communication between travelers and families in the event of an emergency while on the road or at home.
- Spain is one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and six hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET).
- When it’s noon in New York, it’s 6pm on tour.
- When you travel with EF Adventures, you’ll make a positive impact on the places you visit and the people and animals you meet along the way. That’s because our three core Responsible Travel commitments—protecting the environment, supporting local communities, and promoting animal welfare—are at the heart of every tour we offer.
- Travel, when done responsibly, can have an enormous socioeconomic impact on communities. To maximize your impact, eat at locally owned restaurants and shop at small businesses. Ask your Tour Directors to point out restaurants they recommend.
- Prepare for your trip: Be aware of monetary norms such as tipping and negotiating in a market; learn about the destination’s forms of etiquette; and take some time to learn a few words in the local language.
- When interacting with locals, make sure to ask people for permission before you take their picture, and approach cultural differences with empathy and an open mind.
- EF Adventures encourages travelers to limit their waste while on the road, especially single-use plastics. You can cut back on generating plastic waste by packing your own toiletries, using electronic documents, and bringing a reusable water bottle and shopping bag. If you need to use plastics or paper, please recycle.
- When visiting national parks, reserves, or other protected areas, please do not remove anything from the natural environment or leave any litter. Carry out what you carried in.
- When you come across wild animals on tour, take the philosophies of World Animal Protection to heart: Don't touch or feed them, and maintain a respectful distance. The animals you encounter on your trip should be able to exhibit natural forms of behavior.
- Furthermore, avoid buying exploitative animal products, like crafts made from animal parts or products tested on animals.
- If you feel we aren’t meeting any of these commitments, please let us know.
