Benvenuto in Italia! Your flight will land in Milan, and then you’ll transfer to the Alba region, about 2.5 hours away. You’ll be biking in two different areas in Piedmont: the Alba and Asti regions. Both gorgeous, both full of adventure. The Alba region, part of the Langhe area, is known for its unique cuisine like truffles, hazelnuts, and of course famous wines like Barolo and Barbaresco made from the Nebbiolo grape. The Asti region is famous for its sparkling Asti Spumante and Moscato d'Asti wines. Thirsty yet?

- Raise a glass of beer or wine while you get to know your fellow riders and Tour Director during a Welcome Orientation.
- Enjoy a Welcome Dinner to continue bonding with the group.

Day 3: Alba region to Dogliani bike ride & winery visit with lunch
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Wine tasting
Cyclists from all over the world flock to the Alba region. Is it the stunning scenery, the diversity in terrain, or the endorphin rush riders feel on the routes? Without a doubt, it’s all of the above. It doesn’t get better than rolling vineyards, historic castles, and charming medieval villages. It’s Italy at its best. Whether you choose the long or short route (and at 14 miles it’s still a great ride!), you’ll be ready for this afternoon’s treat—a made-to-order lunch perfectly paired with local wines at a winery near Dogliani. What better way to unwind after an active morning on your bike?

After a break in La Morra, you’ll set off through the heart of Italy's wine country. Your route takes you through the renowned wine villages of Barolo and Monforte d'Alba, passing charming streets and quaint cafes. As you pedal towards Dogliani, you’ll soak up this gorgeous landscape that’s dotted with vineyards and iconic Italian architecture.

Biking and truffles, what could be better? Challenge yourself on a morning ride through Barbaresco, one of Italy's premier wine regions. Your ride ends at a truffle farm, where you’ll join two brothers (truffle hunters for four generations!) and their canine companions to learn more about this elusive delicacy. After a successful hunt (you’ve got this), you’ll be treated to a lunch of these prized fungi paired with local delicacies like soft cheese, salami, and a glass of Piedmont's Barbera wine. If you're feeling satiated and content, you can choose to take a taxi back to the hotel to put your feet up. Otherwise, a second, adrenaline-fueled ride awaits. You’ll be sure to have sweet dreams tonight.

Here, you’ll have time to refuel and rehydrate before completing the ride at a local truffle farm. Trust us, today’s steep ride includes jaw-dropping scenery, plenty of open road, and an unforgettable immersion in Piedmont's culture.

The route passes through several towns, each offering a glimpse into the authentic rural life of Piedmont. You’ll be surrounded by a patchwork of vineyards, where the region's renowned Moscato and Barolo grapes are meticulously cultivated. Along the way, make sure to check out the endless iconic hilltop towns and ancient castles. You’ll finish up back at the hotel.
- Pedal 28 miles of steep inclines through the Alba region on your way to a truffle farm.
- Hunt for truffles with the experts, then indulge in a truffle-themed lunch.
- Opt in for a second ride—from the truffle farm back to the Alba region—or head to the hotel in a taxi for some relaxing free time (that spa has your name all over it).

Take a few days to enjoy some true R&R in Northern Italy, a well-deserved break after some intense days of cycling. Lake Maggiore, or Lago Maggiore, is a beautiful glacial lake located on the southern side of the Alps, straddling the border between Italy and Switzerland. It stretches for 40 miles from Locarno in Switzerland to Arona in Italy, making it the second largest lake in Italy and the most beautiful in the Piedmont region. Just a short distance away lies the smaller, equally stunning Lake Orta (which you’ll also get to see), whose beauty has inspired artists and writers for centuries. These tranquil waters offer the perfect excuse to unwind and reflect on your travels.

- International banks and businesses primarily accept debit and credit cards that work with the EMV chip system. If you don’t already have at least one card with a chip in it, we strongly recommend requesting one from your bank prior to your tour.
- Plan ahead and bring cash to tip your Tour Directors.
- To help you feel prepared before traveling on tour, we strongly recommend downloading the EF Adventures mobile app. It’s free and provides information about important deadlines and entry requirements, as well as your detailed itinerary, packing tips, and more. You can also connect with fellow travelers through the app’s chat feature.
- Wi-Fi is available in most hotels, though some charges may apply.
- There is no Wi-Fi on any of the buses.
- Please contact your mobile service provider for information on roaming charges.
Your tour will be led by two expert European Tour Directors who are also experienced cycling guides. They have intimate knowledge of the region's history, culture, and geography, as well as the specific routes you'll be riding. Your Tour Directors will provide both on-the-bike and off-the-bike support, including:
- Leading and supporting the group during daily rides
- Providing detailed route briefings and overviews of local history and culture
- Coordinating logistics and arranging meals
- Offering basic bike maintenance and riding tips
- Ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all travelers
As experienced cyclists themselves, your Tour Directors will ride with the group and are trained in first aid and bike safety procedures.
- One of the benefits of traveling with EF Adventures is our on tour emergency support team.
- Our extensive network of offices around the world, and our integration of ISO 31000: Risk Management Guidelines, help our dedicated 24/7 Emergency Service teams anticipate and address on-tour challenges in a flexible and iterative way.
- This team supports travelers and Tour Directors using a combination of extensive training, simulations, incident response planning, and decades of experience to help manage emergencies if they arise, ranging from personal health concerns or injuries to major world events.
- As needed, On Tour Support can facilitate additional support for travelers on tour, arrange assistance from outside specialists, and liaise with local and international authorities to help solve on-the-ground issues. In addition, the team is dedicated to supporting and facilitating communication between travelers and families in the event of an emergency while on the road or at home.
- Italy is 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and 6 hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET).
- When it’s noon in New York, it’s 6pm in Italy.
- When you travel with EF Adventures, you’ll make a positive impact on the places you visit and the people and animals you meet along the way. That’s because our three core Responsible Travel commitments—protecting the environment, supporting local communities, and promoting animal welfare—are at the heart of every tour we offer.
- Travel, when done responsibly, can have an enormous socioeconomic impact on communities. To maximize your impact, eat at locally owned restaurants and shop at small businesses. Ask your Tour Directors to point out restaurants they recommend.
- Prepare for your trip: Be aware of monetary norms such as tipping and negotiating in a market; learn about the destination’s forms of etiquette; and take some time to learn a few words in the local language.
- When interacting with locals, make sure to ask people for permission before you take their picture, and approach cultural differences with empathy and an open mind.
- EF Adventures encourages travelers to limit their waste while on the road, especially single-use plastics. You can cut back on generating plastic waste by packing your own toiletries, using electronic documents, and bringing a reusable water bottle and shopping bag. If you need to use plastics or paper, please recycle.
- When visiting national parks, reserves, or other protected areas, please do not remove anything from the natural environment or leave any litter. Carry out what you carried in.
- When you come across wild animals on tour, take the philosophies of World Animal Protection to heart: Don't touch or feed them, and maintain a respectful distance. The animals you encounter on your trip should be able to exhibit natural forms of behavior.
- Furthermore, avoid buying exploitative animal products, like crafts made from animal parts or products tested on animals.
- If you feel we aren’t meeting any of these commitments, please let us know.
