Hiking & Walking

From the clifftop trails of Cap Ferrat above the Mediterranean to the high-alpine paths above Chamonix, France on foot rewards patience. The pace is what makes the villages sink in. The views are earned. So is the lunch at the end of the trail.

Biking

Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, where the road signs read like a sommelier's wish list. Provence's Gorges de la Nesque, 22 miles of winding canyon beneath white limestone cliffs. Mt. Ventoux, the Giant of Provence, waiting at the end of the week. Oh—and there's a rather famous race in July, if you're interested.

Multi-Adventure

Lavender fields, limestone canyons, and a mountain that has humbled the world's best cyclists. It's also the landscape that pulled Van Gogh south and kept Cézanne for a lifetime. Move through it. Then sit down for a long lunch and let it sink in.

Nice & the Riviera

The French Riviera has a reputation for yachts, casinos, and sunglasses that cost more than your flight. Our tours find the other side—clifftop trails above the Mediterranean, morning markets where the food does the talking, private coves the crowds never find. The glamour is real. So is everything else.

Burgundy & Loire Valley

Two of France's most storied regions, back to back. Burgundy's grand cru vineyards and medieval wine estates give way to the Loire Valley's riverside châteaux and Saturday markets. The riding is exceptional. So is everything that comes after.

The French Alps

For those who want elevation in every sense of the word. Chamonix. Mont Blanc. The passes that define the Tour de France. This is France at its most demanding—and most rewarding. Hike above the tree line to a mountain refuge, or clip in and climb the roads that have made and broken careers. Either way, the mountain gives back more than you put in.

Get closer to the race

The Tour de France is the greatest race in cycling. Every July, the peloton moves across France—through the Alps, across the Pyrenees, down to Paris—and the world watches from the roadside. Our Special Departure puts you inside it. Ride the official stages before the peloton arrives. Stand at the finish. Experience the race as a participant, not a spectator—with access that's only possible through EF's partnership with the EF Pro Cycling team. Spots are limited and fill early.

UNIQUELY EF ADVENTURES

A handful of the experiences that define our France tours.

The mountain that started everything.

Mont Blanc has drawn mountaineers since the first recorded summit in 1786. The trails above Chamonix still follow in their footsteps—from two sides of the valley. Hike the Aiguilles Rouges past glacial lakes and alpine meadows, or descend from L'Aiguille du Midi at 12,605 feet to the Mer de Glace glacier. Same massif. Two completely different stories.

Descend into the Gorges de la Nesque

The Nesque River carved this limestone plateau over millions of years. Ride 22 miles through a winding canyon beneath white cliffs, with Mt. Ventoux ahead, ending in Monieux for a well-earned farmhouse lunch. It's the kind of meal that only tastes that good after a ride like that.

Chablis: the detour that earns its place

One last stop before the Loire Valley: Chablis, where limestone soil full of fossilized oyster shells produces the mineral-driven whites that made this small town famous. A winery tour, a tasting, and lunch—then on to the garden.

Taste your way through the Cours Saleya

Nice's main market runs along the Old Town's Cours Saleya every morning—striped awnings, local cheeses, zucchini flower fritters, and pissaladière, the caramelized onion and anchovy tart that belongs to this city and nowhere else. Your Tour Director knows which stalls to stop at. An hour that reframes everything after.
